Wheelset gearbox

The wheelset gearbox transfers the drive force to the drive wheelset. The enormous loads on the bearings and the gear tooth flanks generate heat and are made manageable by lubricating with oil. For safety reasons, temperature monitoring is essential to ensure reliable gear operation.

As the temperature is the decisive measurand for the functioning of the gear, it is also directly relevant for the safety of the train.
